Curriculum Vitae - Retired April 2017.

Gerald (Jerry) L. Nissenbaum practiced law for over 50 years in Massachusetts and was named one of the best divorce lawyers in the country by Town and Country magazine, one of the country's Top 10 Divorce Lawyers by Worth magazine, and Boston's best divorce lawyer by Boston Magazine. Both Super Lawyers (since its 2005 inception) and Martindale Hubble have included Jerry in the best 5% of practicing family law lawyers in Massachusetts where he has been practicing law since 1967.

His career was focused on representing clients in  who may have had complex situations due to high net worth and asset valuations, international, or child custody issues and was known for many precedent setting cases in Massachusetts and international law. 

He took a special interest in situations of parental child abduction both within the US and internationally. He was instrumental driving the  Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction which  is a multilateral treaty developed by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) that provides an expeditious method to return a child internationally abducted by a parent from one member country to ther proper legal parent and country. He also helped write its 1993 Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoptions.

Jerry has frequently written and lectured nationally and internationally on various topics such as divorce, custody, removal of children, international child abductions, division of property, and other family law and related income tax issues.

Jerry has also contributed chapters in books on family law. Most recently he and Attorney Wendy O. Hickey co-authored the Massachusetts Chapter in the 3rd Edition of the Thomson-Reuters European Law Guide to Family Law: Jurisdictional and Institutional Comparisons. And, among other things, since April 2006, Jerry has authored his Divorce 411 column which is published every Sunday in the Boston Herald.
